The Chorten Kora Festival brings together perhaps the largest congregation of people at a single festival site in all of eastern Bhutan. It is undoubtedly one of the most popular festivals in the country. ‘Kora’ means circumambulation and true to its name, circumambulating the Chorten Kora is this festival’s main event. It also attracts people from the neighbouring Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh. It is a colourful and lively festival with mask dances and a display of bright traditional dresses from all the eastern valleys.
